The Manual of Naval Preventive Medicine, NAVMED P-5010, Chapter 1, was revised in August 1999.  The P-5010 is based on the U.S. Public Health Service, Food and Drug Administration Food Code.  Chapter 1 provides guidance for Navy and Marine Corps personnel involved with food service sanitation.  It can be found on the Internet at the Virtual Naval Hospital

Food Sanitation Course Online

The Naval School of Health Sciences offers a Food Sanitation Course online.  This course addresses the regulations and procedures for the procurement, storage, preparation, serving, and disposition of food. Discusses the processes and procedures for the inspection of food service facilities.  Enroll Online!

Food Protection Certification Program

The Chauncey Group International, Ltd., a subsidiary of Educational Testing Service offers a "Food Protection Certification Program".  The candidate must past a written exam, which can be provided by your local Navy College Office.  The successful candidate is awarded a certificate that indicates he/she "has demonstrated the knowledge of the standards, procedures, and practices necessary for the protection of consumers from foodborne illness by meeting the examination standards set forth by the Advisory Council of the food Protection Certification Program."  If you are familiar with the P-5010 Chapter 1 or have taken the National Restaurant Association's Serv-Safe Course, you should easily pass the exam.  For more information, contact your local Navy College Office.
